Donations

Clare House accepts:

  • Financial Contributions: 100% of your financial donation to Clare House is tax deductible and will be used specifically to benefit the women and children Clare House serves.
To make a financial contribution, simply click the paypal button and donate through the secure Paypal Account or send checks made payable to Clare House.
  • Supplies: Clare House continually is in need of cleaning and personal care items (see wish list for more specifics).
  • Food: Clare House accepts non-expired can goods, non-perishable and frozen items. Please contact us concerning all fresh food donations.

Clare House no longer accepts clothing donations. Our shelter collaborates with other social service agencies to provide clothing to our residents. Clare House is unable to receive the donation of items remaining from neighborhood or Church yard sales. Storage space is limited. Please be mindful that Clare House spends hundreds of dollars annually to dispose of outdated or dirty items as well as household items, toys and games that are broken, non-functioning or incomplete. We ask that you please use your good judgment when bringing donations to the shelter and kindly call to make delivery arrangements in advance.

Volunteering

How Can You Make a Difference? Volunteers at Clare House truly make a difference in the lives of the women and children we serve. For those of you who were able to donate your time and skills to Clare House in 2010, THANK YOU! If you haven’t volunteered with us before but are interested in getting involved, now is the perfect time to start. One of our goals for 2011 is to streamline our volunteer opportunities in order to optimize efficiency. You can learn more about our current opportunities below. Please note: because we are a non-profit organization with limited resources, all of our volunteer opportunities take place Monday-Friday between 9 am-5 pm and Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8 pm.

So what if you are unable to support the shelter by volunteering during those hours but still want to help? You could ask your boss to support a dress down day, where everyone pays $5.00 to dress down on a Friday in support of the shelter. Or maybe you want to help our families enjoy a night out? You could donate passes to the movies, bowling, or restaurant gift cards? Perhaps your family or organization would be interested in our Adopt-A-Room program, where your time and money is used to spruce up one of our rooms for the women and children of Clare House?

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Charitable Chef: Prepare a meal for residents and drop off on a scheduled Wednesday evening
Child Caregiver: Help babysit our children on a scheduled Wednesday evening
Life Skills Facilitator: Share your knowledge with our women to help them work towards self-sufficiency
Mailing Preparation: Quarterly help with labeling, counting and mailing our newsletter
Maintenance Provider: Repair items around the house as needed
Supply Drive Coordinator: Collect items from our wish list as an individual, group, or business

Overview of Donations

Clare House receives financial support from individuals, businesses, Churches and Houses of Worship and applies for and receives foundation and corporation grants. Clare House is proud to be a United Way member agency and receives a formal allocation and donor designations. In addition, Clare House receives Lancaster County and City Community Development Block Grants and Emergency Shelter Grants. Each year Clare House completes the rigorous application process in order to receive funding from these public sources.

Further, Clare House receives donations of personal care and cleaning supplies, furniture, services (such as general maintenance) and household items.

Clare House operates only through the generous donation of time, talent and treasure of our community. We are thankful for the support. Kind deeds change lives.
